- The New Zealand Recreation Standards site is a joint project between the
New Zealand Recreation Association
and Outdoors New Zealand, supported by Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) to provide users with easy access to information relating to recreation activities and their regulations.
The site brings together legislation, standards, guidelines and policy from a variety of sources which users are free to browse and download. Where appropriate, the site is linked to other websites where source material is located.
The site is an information source and does not attempt to rank or show preferential treatment to any particular standard, guideline or policy.
The site is administered and updated through the NZRA. If you have a policy, guideline or standard which is not currently on the site contact the NZRA with details and it will then be considered for inclusion.
Legislation
This part of the site offers users access to New Zealand legislation relevant to the recreation sector. For each statute, a brief description is offered, and a link provided to the Government's legislation site(the Public Access to Legislation Project) which provides free public access to unofficial versions of New Zealand statutes (Public, Local, and Private Acts) and Statutory Regulations. You can search and browse this material free of charge.
Because the Government site does not link to individual statutes, when are taken to the site, the relevant piece of legislation you are interested in will not appear on the screen first. Use the simple search facility on the left of the screen to find the particular act. For example if you want to access the Conservation Act, click on the 'C' which will open up all legislation beginning with that letter. Simply scroll down, click on the file you want, and the legislation will appear.
Standards
- In this section you will find standards, codes of practice and handbooks, including widely accepted specifications, for indoor and outdoor recreation activities. For each item, a brief description is offered and a link to other websites, for the source, where appropriate. Content includes standards for improved public health and safety and care for the environment, the Department of Conservation's handbook for walkways and standards for water safety signage.
Policy
In this section you will find policy documents from local authorities, Government departments and other organisations relevant to recreation professionals. With local authority information, this may be local policy only and not national. For each item, a brief description is offered and a link to other websites, for the source, where appropriate. Content includes dog control policy to working with communities to enhance conservation.
Guidelines
In this section you will find guidelines from Government departments and other organisations some of which are of a more general nature and not specific to recreation. Content includes Ministry water quality guidelines and guidelines for preventing harassment in the workplace.
